Empowering Youth Through The American Youth Council (AYC)
Since the early 1900s, various youth advocacy groups have aimed to empower future generations, yet many young Americans still feel disenfranchised, with over 70% feeling underrepresented in government and a significant portion doubting their democratic impact. The lack of a unified national body for youth representation, limited awareness and participation in civic opportunities, and inconsistent access to engagement across states and communities have all contributed to this disconnect. The proposed American Youth Council (AYC) would address these issues by offering a coordinated federal platform for youth representation. By including representatives from state, city, and national youth councils and organizations while also providing advisory roles, facilitating collaboration, and offering leadership training the Council would enhance youth engagement, ensure diverse representation, and develop leadership skills.

HR 5851: Youth, Peace, and Security Act of 2023
The youth population is disproportionately affected by war and violence but is often not given a voice during foreign policy discussions. The absence of direct representation frequently makes officials unaware of young people's perspectives on a situation, whereas youth are more likely to experience conflict. H.R. 5851 is a piece of legislation that can help end this disparity. By creating advisory boards, bringing round table discussion, facilitating mutually respectful meetings with policymakers, and promoting educational training programs focused on peacebuilding. This initiative will help equip policymakers with the perspective of young individuals by elevating youth voices; through fostering conversation and action, H.R. 5851 will lead to a society where young people's voices feel heard and where world peace is constantly pursued.
